New York Week for Aspiring Chinese Development Practitioners

The New York Week for Aspiring Chinese Development Practitioners is a non-degree training program offered by the China Sustainability Program in collaboration with NYC-based institutions. The program intends to provide aspiring and emerging future leaders in sustainable development with the opportunities to get acquainted with the most challenging global development issues of our times. Participants in this program need to hold a minimum of a college degree (preferably to masters candidates/graduates). Chinese participants will also have the chance to interact with Columbia University students during their stay in New York City as well as attend events organized by Admission Offices across campus (click on the image below for a closer look at the agenda).

New York Week for Aspiring Chinese Development Practitioners 

Dates: August 17-19, 2016
Location: Columbia School of Social Work

Before coming to New York City for Columbia University Week for Aspiring Chinese Development Practitioners, participants spend 20 days in Africa conducting field work with major international development partners. This field component of the program is organized by Global Education Connection (GEC) and is called the China-Africa-USA (CAU) public policy research project. The combination of field work plus workshops training in NYC provides participants with critical conceptual, analytical and applied skills, tools and perspectives on sustainability. The program adopts the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as its main conceptual framework of analysis.

At the New York Week for Aspiring Chinese Development Practitioners, participants work in teams on development issues in Africa and other related global topics, under the supervision of academic and field experts. The work at Columbia is finalized with an actionable report and presentation. Overall, this program gives students an opportunity build a network through a multicultural, multinational and multidisciplinary education framework.
